Happy Yuletide: Stewie Griffin Plushie

My future brother-in-law is a big fan of Family Guy and when I phoned up my sister, asking for suggestions, this was the one she gave me.

One square of red felt
One square of gold felt
One square of antique white felt
Antique white embroidery floss
Black embroidery floss
Gold embroidery floss
Red embroidery floss
White embroidery floss
Scissors
Polyfill
Sewing needle

One thing that’s really wonderful about western animation is the simple shapes, lines and colors it uses to create its characters and make them visually accessible to both young and old audiences. It also makes mimicking the character’s features in doll form (without a stencil) relatively easy.

Like with my other dolls, I opted not the fill Stewie’s hands, giving them a stiff, flat, glove-like look. As with the Samus plushie, I cut out the shapes of Stewie’s shirt, head, hands, overalls and shoes separately and sewed each piece to create a front and back side of the doll before stitching the whole thing together.

Manny loved his present and I’m very pleased with how it turned out.
