“Believe In Magic, Motherfucker” Necklace

Sometime there are no words that fit a situation apart from dirty words.

I hit a wall with some long-term projects and decided to pour that nervous energy into making this gorgeous brass and silver grouping.

1.5″ x 1.5″ brass square blank with drill hole
Silver chandelier earring with wire
Two glass rocaille beads
1/16″ letter stamp set
Jewelry anvil
Jewelry pliers
Wire cutters
Hammer
16″ Forge box chain
6″ fish scale link chain
Silver lobster claw clasp with jump ring

There’s a “found art” element to this project. The mixed chain and clasp is from a previous project. The earring was a lucky find that turned up on the sidewalk in front of my building. I thought its intricate design would look good against the brass background and conceal the stamped letters adequately (for anyone that doesn’t read this blog or wouldn’t care for this kind if sentiment).

I re-shaped the earring wire with the pliers, pulling it into a single loop that would hold the grouping and fit the box chain. I then used the wire cutters to trim off the excess wire.

I’ve gotten adept with both spacing my stamped letters apart and keeping my hand steady with both the hammer and the letter stamp. This caption took less than ten minutes to complete. Afterwards, I slid the brass stamped charm behind the earring, both of them sandwiched between two glass rocaille beads. The caption itself is a variation on a quote from The Big Bang Theory.
