A beautiful heart, faithful and strong…

GenCon was tons of fun as usual! I ended up participating in a couple of workshops this year, including ClaireKnits’ “Knit a My Little Pony Purse” class. Each participant was allowed to pick from one of three character patterns to create their purse — I chose Rarity, the crafty pony.

I’ve never been terribly good with intarsia and this project tested me quite a bit in that area. Fortunately, Claire was there to offer suggestions and to introduce me to the concept of separate yarn bobbins to prevent overstretching my yarn (if there were instructions for this in any of my knitting books, I don’t recall seeing it — but that might just be my ADD talking).

The purse ended up being the perfect length for the con-going experience — anyone who attends GenCon will recognize the need for chest-length, around the neck wallets to store event tickets, credentials, spare cash, photo ID, and prevent any of the above from being stolen. The con even provides an official version for such purposes. Now that I’m home, I’m using it for milk money.
