Favorite Videos: “Floating,” The Moody Blues

Somewhere in our family archive of VHS tapes, we have a video set to this song that my father made. In honor of the album’s concept (songs inspired by the Apollo 11 mission), he synced the audio with documentary footage and science fiction film clips of people moving in zero gravity (2010, Lost in Space, and the PBS documentary Spaceflight). As I’ve gotten older, it’s become one of my favorite songs on one of my favorite albums.

Depersonalization can leave you feel like you’re floating — as can the release of serotonin and oxytocin. I know which one I prefer.
