Tedious Things in the Lives of Crafters #16: Tidying Up

When I talk about my “crafting corner,” the term is something of a misnomer — because that particular corner of the room (consisting of a sewing machine table, an end table, and a three-drawer Rubbermaid plastic storage cabinet) is more for craft storage than for anything else. The majority of my actual crafting (painting, knitting, crocheting, metal stamping, hot-gluing, cutting scrapbook paper, etc) is done at my kitchen counter, on my lap, or in my cubicle at work.

And, because my crafting corner is used for storage, it accumulates clutter very, very quickly. And, the more cluttered it gets, I’m less and less inclined to tidy it.

Rationally, I know it’s a good idea. Rationally, I know that a clean crafting area will pull the room together and make it easier for me to locate the things I need for individual projects. But the longer I look at the stack of scrapbook paper, unfinished wood blocks and coffins, altoid tins, scrap felt, balls of yarn, cups filled with paint-brushes and stray knitting needles… something inside me shuts down.

I’m open to suggestions on how to make it easier — because it needs to get done rather quickly. There are holidays and birthday presents at stake.

  1. Buy new stationary and storage boxes….just think of all the pretty labels you could make to stick onto those wonderful storage boxes….a box for this *stick* a box for that *stick* – problem solved 😉

    • I just bought a bunch of memory/storage boxes from Michaels — there may or may not be an “after” photo posted once I’m finished filling and organizing them 🙂

  2. Yay for storage boxes! They make crafting so much easier lol
