Time for Ms. Moody to play teacher again…

Last week, I submitted a new bottle cap cross stitch workshop to GenCon. The prep materials are going to be both more and less complicated than my doll making workshop — less because the designs are all adjusted for a 1″ frame, but ultimately more because I’m going to have to produce a small booklet for all of them (house colors for Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, pride colors, both basic and more specific designs for mini figures).

Also, a funny thing about a lot of workshops is that, whatever the suggested age and experience range you submit for the description, you inevitably get people who have limited experience in the activity. I sat in a knitting workshop last year where the instructor/designer had to spend about half an hour (not an insignificant amount of time for a two-hour workshop) walking one of the participants through basic knit and purl stitches.

People are enthusiastic and purchasing tickets for the activity ensures that you have both the enthusiasm and the money to come back. For that, I’m more than willing to sit with someone and walk them through something. But anticipating just what I might have to walk someone through is a little nerve-wracking.
