Baby Bee Amigurumi

My girlfriend’s niece is mad about two things: princesses and bugs. To make the best possible impression for our first meeting, I opted to make a couple amigurumi bugs/insects/creepy crawlies for her yuletide gift, starting with a variation of Grietjekarwietje’s Buzz Bee crochet pattern

Light yellow worsted weight acrylic yarn
Black worsted weight acrylic yarn
US E (3.5mm) crochet hook
Black embroidery floss
Polyfill
Sewing needle
Pencil (for stuffing polyfill)
Scissors

I liked what the original crafter did with the eyes — embroidering inverted “V’s” to infer happiness rather than reaching for the plastic safety eyes. I ended up nixing the mouth for practical reasons (no red embroidery floss in my office/bug out bag).

The wings ended up being something of a happy accident. I misplaced the part of the pattern that included them and ended up improvising a pair based on my previous modifications for another pattern (mentioning no names, though he comes from a galaxy far, far away).

And they were are. All finished and ready to fly!
